STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) / Stratford, Yesterday. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held last evening. The sub-committee appointed to report on a site for the District High School recommended the properties of the late Lieut.Colonel Malone and Dr. Paget at the top of Pago Street. Thp two properties have an area of 57 acres, and should make a fine site for the school. After a good deal of discussion the report was adopted. The matter is one for the Education Board to deal with now. The discussion in the Education Board to retain the Pacific reader for another year was unfavorably commented on by the committee. Most of the school children at the local school have already purchased the new Alexandra readers. The following motion was carried: '•That this committee is of (he opinion that seeing that practically the whole of the children of the Stratford school have purchased Alexandra readers, that it be a recommendation to the Board to allow those schools having purchased these books to use them during 1916." The matter of the unnttal school excursion was left to the chairman and secretary to make arrangements. A recommendation that Kawaroa Park be the place selected was defeated.
The D. Company, 11th Regiment, gave to Corporal Barker, D.C.M., last night. The function was a great success, and Corporal Barker was heartily complimented oil securing the muchprized medal.
