ARMENIA.
A GALLANT STAND. VILLAGERS RESIST TURKS FOR 53 DAYS. London, Dee. 20. The pastor of the Armenian church at Zeitoun gives a thrilling account of the escape of Armenians reported on September 21. When banished from their villages they [led to the heights of Mousadagh. The refugees consisted of 2000 women and girls," 427 babies, fl->8 young boys, and 105-1 men, half the latter armed with old-fashioned rifles. Trenches were constructed, together with ramparts of rocks.
The Turks, who were well armed, crept within four hundred yards. The Armenians, at night time, made a sortie and attacked the enemy with the courage of despair. The Turks were surprised, and retreated, but later 1 .-,,000 resumed the siege. The Armenians rolled boulders down the mountain side, disastrously for the Turks. Alousadagh descends precipitately into the sea on one side.
Hoisting an immense Hag bearing the words: ''Christians in distress; rescue," they anxiously watched for a passing vessel. After warding off the Turks for S3 days the warship Ciuiehen saw the signal, sent a wireless message for further .ships, and all the Armenians were rescued.
