AUSTRALIAN FORCES. QUOTA FOR EACH STATE. Melbourne, Dec. 17. The numbers required in each State for the new army with monthly reinforcements for the same are. as follows: New South Wales anil Victoria 16,800, reinforcements 5400 and 5100 respectively; Queensland and South Australia 5600, reinforcements 2000 and 1700 respectively; Westralia 4200, reinforcements 1400; Tasmania 1400, reinforcements 400. At a meeting of the Trades Hall Council Mr. Hughes, the president; severely castigated the council for its recent recruiting resolution and advised them to rescind it as soon as possible. ARRESTS OP SOLDIERS. Melbourne, Dec. 17. The repent military raid resulted in the arrest of 253 men absent without leave and two who were wearing uniforms without authority. In future deserters will be liable to arrest by the civil police, who will be paid £1 per head.
