RED CROSS WORK.

NEW ZEALAND BRANCH. A meeting is to be held in the Town Hall to-night for the purpose of concentrating efforts upon Red Cross work. At a meeting held at Government House, Wellington, a month ago, the following resolutions were unanimously agreed to:— ■ (1) That the suggestion of the Order of St. John and British Red Cross Society be adopted—viz., that all organisations in New Zealand other than the Order of St. John he united under the title of the ''New Zen land Branch of the British Red Cross Society," keeping their individuality if they so wish by prefixing the name of their town or district before the words "New Zealand," and at the same time co-operating with the Order of St. John where that organisation exists. (2) Tile centres to manage the details of the organisation, utilising as far as possible the machinery at present existing. (3) That Mr. A. H. Miles be asked to 'accept the position of oflicw-in-cliavge of the central department in Wellington, for the purpose of ascertaining (a) what goods are required; (b) method of despatch and packing; (e) how and where the goods are required. (4) That the council for the central organisation consist of three members from each of the four military districts, together with the officer in charge of the central department in Wellington, and his Excellency the Governor as chairman. * (5) That this conference approves of the employment of paid secretarial assistance for the officer in charge of the central department, and authorises the council to make all necessary arrangements in connection with such appointment. and the allocation of the cost thereof between the various district organisations. (0) That one or more representatives he appointed, unpaid, at each of the following places—Egypt and Malta.
