ARRIVAL OF THE CARS. PROGRESS OF THE WORK. The six cars which are to be employed on the New Plymouth tramways arrived here from Christehurch yesterday by the steamer Kahika. The cars comprise two bogie (large-sized) cars and four smaller ones, and represent the latest pattern. All the ears are closed in and are divided into two compartments, one being for smokers. The two larger ears will accommodate about 511 passengers each, while the smaller ones will each carry about 36 passengers. The cars were brought from the port yesterday, and will be conveyed to the earshed at Fitzroy to-day. Here they will be set up and it is expected they will be completed by Christmas. The following report on the progress of the tramway, work was presented to the meeting of the Borough Council last night by Mr. F. Black (consulting engineer) :

OFFICIAL REPORTS. Mr. Fred. Black, consulting engineer, reports as follows: — Contract No. 2.—The trolley wiring lias been fixed and sweated up throughout the route, with the exception of the curves and the half-mile at the breakwater end. The balance of the section boxes have been erected and the connections from them and the feeder pillars have been run ready for joining up to the overhead wiring. The signals between loops near the Fitzroy railway station have-been elected. AH test anil telephone wires throughout Devon street have been erected and connections made to the section boxes. The alteration to the track work on the curve at the junction of Devon and Kgmont streets in order to make the track conform to the contract requirements lias been started. Contract Xo. 3.—The two motor-gen-erator sets and the two boosters have been erected on their foundations and now await the arrival of the switchboard in order to be connected up. Contract Xo. 4.—A1l trucks are erected and await the arrival of bodies, which I understand will be shipped as soon as the steamer which is to bring them arrives in Lvttelton. General. —The <?ar-bodv jacks and car jacks have come to hand.
