Hall, of the Wellington Post staff, recently arrived in Sydney to be married. He was armed with a. New Zealand Government permit and proposed returning with his wife -by the Moeraki on Thursday, which was the last sailing enabling' him to fulfil the conditions of his permit. It appears, however, that the New Zealand permit is not sufficient, and that lie must obtain an Australian passport. The Customs authorities here have so far declined to give an assurance whether such passport will be issued by Thursday. Several other New Zealanders .are placed in the same difficulty as Mr. Hall, being unable to obtain passports. Melbourne, Dee. S.

The Minister of External Affairs has been notified that the regulations applying to aliens landing in the United Kingdom have now been extended to British subjects. No adult Briton or alien male or female is permitted to land in the United Kingdom without a passport.

Where there was no obstacle a permit would be granted straight away, and if urgent circumstances were shown he would take it upon himself to grant a permit immediately. Melbourne, Dec. 8. Mr. Russell, Acting Minister for Ex» teraal Affairs, said he was not aware of any reason for holding up New Zealanders in possession of return tickets or permits. He asked for a report on the matter. The Secretary of the Department said the Department was a commonsense one, and it was not its business to hamper genuine travellers, provided they complied with the regulations and showed no cause for complaint. The Department was getting 1 into touch with New Zealand, because at present they did not know exactly what the Dominion wished to be done
