in THE SEA OF MARMORA. BBHISH SUBMARINE'S EXPLOITS. Received Dee. 7, 5.50 p.m. London, Dee. 6. An Admiralty announcement reveals remarkable success of a British submarine in the Sea of Marmora. A submarine on December 2 lived into and damaged a train on the Israid railway. On December 3 she torpedoed aud sank a Turkish destroyer, the erew being placed aboard a sailing ship. On December 4 she sank a supply steamer, of 300 tons, off Pandemia, by gunfire, and also destroyed four sailers, which were carrying supplies.
DODGING A SUBMARINE, j AN "EXCITING TIME. London, Dee. G. A thrilling story is told of how the British merchantman Japanese Prince escaped from a submarine. A passenger says that for five hours they struggled to escape, meanwhile being heavily shelled. "It was the most exciting time of my life," he says. "Shells were dropping in the water all round. The cap; tain stood pluckily at his post, zigzagging and handling the vessel with wonderful ability and judgment. The crew loyally helped, and finally the passengers, who were thrilled with excitement, had the satisfaction of seeing the ship sowly outpace her ruthless pursuer and, hy a miracle, reach port safely." The gallantry had <bcen recognised by the shipowners, who have given £SOO to the captain and a similar sum to the crew.

It was a chemical dropped into the Minnesota's boilers that caused the breakdown of the vessel while she wtts en route to Britain with war supplies. BRITISH STEAMER ON FIRE. Received Dee. 7, fI.S p.m. Halifax, Doc. 6. The. British steamer Carlton, bound for England, has arrived here on fire. It is believed to be the work of an incendiary.
