ON THE SEA.
GERMAN SUBMARINE SUNK. SMASHED IN HALF BY AIRCRAFT. Paris Dec. 5. British Sub-Lieutenant Viney and the French Lieutenant Desincay describe the destruction of a submarine on November 29. They were cruising at a height of ten thousand feet and sighted two submarines five miles from the coast. The sea was shallow and they were unable to dive. One hurried oil' and zig-zagged in its flight. The aviators descended to USO feet and attacked the other, which answered its helm less readily. They dropped the first bomb cfl'eetually, and damaged the deck. The second bomb broke her in halves and she sank. The ever-widening sheet of oil on the water told all they wanted to know. Viney gets the Victoria Cross, and Desincay the Legion of Honor. THE MIDDLETOX. Malta, Dec. 5. Four of the Middlelon's crew were killed. AMERICAN LINER DAMAGED. EXPLOSION IN ENGINE-ROOM. New York, Dee. ». The Hill liner Minnesota is returning to San Francisco damaged. Three men have been arrested on a charge of causing an explosion in the engine-room, pwing to her slowness in making port shipping circles believe the damage is serious.
