OPENING OF THE SEASON. HESKETT OBTAINS THE CENTURY. After several disappointments in the nutter of wa&ther, New Plymouth crickets were favored with a perfect day on Saturday, when the 1915-16 season was opened with a match between New Plymouth-Law combined and United Ser-vice-N.P. High School. Last year no less than sis New Plymouth teams competed in the competitions, but this year, owing to the war, it has been decided only to play friendly matches between teams picked from local cricketers. Saturday's watch proved most enjoyable and some good orieket wai shown on the Western Park, where the wicket played well and the outfield also was in fair order. Law-New Plymouth, captained by Bewley, scored 198, of which HeaKett contributed 140 by fine cricket, though he made some uppish strokes, and after passing the century gave two or throe chances. For an opening day it was a great performance and it included four sixers and 23 boundaries. Service-School scored 115 llonteath being undefeated 'with 60, made by almost chanceless cricket. His .score included fourteen boundaries. Ingram, in three hits, scored thirteen, including a lofty hit to the road, and one to the terraces. Tleskett, with six wickets for 56, obtained bowling honors.
