The Berliner Tageblatt describes the battle of Prishtina as the fiercest in the Balkans. The enemy lost 20,000 men. The retreating Serbs destroyed the railways, which pass over defiles, mountain streams, and peaks, giving continuous opportunities for damage by the Serbian mountain dwellers. The Press Bureau states that it has .been decided that khaki armlets be issued to non-coms, and men of the regulars and territorials who have been medically discharged from the army since the commencement of the war. CALLING UP FRENCH RECRUITS. Paris, Dec. 1. The Chamber adopted a Bill authorising the calling up of the 1917 class of recruits as a prudential measure. GERMAN OFFICERS FOR EGYPT. Lonjlon, Dec. 1, One hundred and forty-five German officers, destined for the army aj»aiiist Egypt, passed through Sofia. They stated that no Germans will be employed in the Egyptian expedition except the officers commanding. GREEK SOCIALISTS WILL NOT VOTE. London, Dee. 1. The Greek Socialists arc not participating in the elections, on thp grounds that the Government policy is undermining the constitution.
CHRISTMAS FOR OUR BOYS. London, Dec. 1. The New Zealand War Contingent Association is arranging Christmas entertainments at Epsom and Weymouth. THE EASTERN CAMPAIGN. DISPOSAL OF ENEMY FORCES. Received Dec. 2, 11.13 p.m. Rome, Dec. 2. Reports from Bucharest state that the Germans have withdrawn large forces from Bulgaria and Serbia to meet the Russian offensive in Galicia and Bukowina. Several battalions of Bulgarians have been sent to Gallipoli, instead of Germans as wag originally planned. TURKS EXPELLED. THE WAR IN THE CAUCASUS. Received Dec. 2, 11.15 p.m. Petrograd, Dec. 2. A communique says: South af Lake Van, after two days fighting in the region of Varkunis, the Turk 3 were driven out of two fortified positions, and are in full flight westward.
