INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, Saturday. St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild held their annual sale of work last week in the Parish Hall. In the evening songs were given by the Rev. Kempthorne and Mr. Cutler. A farce entitled "Between the Soup and Savoury" was a huge success. The recruiting officer reports that five men enlisted on Saturday. The following team have been selected to represent the Inglewood Rifle Club in the match against the New Plymouth team next Thursday:—President Geo. Taylor, Riflemen 0. Spurdle, Marsh, King, Hall, Surrey, Martin, Frewin, and YV. Spindle. Mr. W. G. Ladbrook met with a very painful accident to-day. lie was engaged in melting the top off a benzine tin, which must have contained a small amount of benzine, for it suddenly exploded, and, striking Mr. Ladbrook's forearm, cut through flesh and muscle right to the bone, making an awful gash. Although defeated by the High School boys, the local schools' cricket team thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the High School and the game that was played there last Saturday. They also deeply appreciate the hospitality extended to them. The Salvation Army are arranging a huge demonstration by the children in the near future, for which purpose they are holding nightly practices and rehearsals. The Captain states that he has booked the Town Hall for January 0, when the Auckland City Baud are to give a concert in the interest of the New Zealand Sick and Wounded Fund.
