DISTRICT NEWS.
WAKEA. (From Our Own Correspondent). The school children's 'concert was held last Wednesday. In spite of the wet night, the hall was packed. Mr. Parker acted as chairman, and in his speech praised the school teachers and the children for their excellent work. Mrs. Barak is to be congratulated upon the results achieved. The programme was as follows: —Overture, Miss G. Barak; recitation, two little tots; song, "Sons of the Sea," senior boys; recitation, "Cats' Tea Party," juniors; duet, "Friendship," C. Larking and G. Barak; scene from Malice in Kuturland, "Army Barmy"; song, "Go to ißye, Mammy"; recitation, "The Elf and'the Toadstool"; violin sole, Monty Barak; song, "Japloo Baby," girls; whistling chorus, boys; song, Circe Larking; song and chorus, "Your King and Country Need You"; song, "Knitting," senior girls. The dialogue "Rosebud" was then given, the characters being taken as follows:—King, Monty Barak; Prince, Hector Larking; Lord Chancellor, Jack Grylls; Queen, Lily Penning; Duchess' lady-in-waiting, Connie Julian; Mrs. Gamp, Gyrtlc Barak; Rosebud, Doris Hale; Spitfire, Circe Larking; fairies, Donna BlacK, Lilly Clarke, Fdie Julian, Mary Lawn. Thanks are due to Miss Aylward for her valuable help as accompanist, and Mrs. S. Wells for her assistance in making costumes and for the hall decorations. A dance followed the concert and it was well patronised. The gross proceeds from the concert amounted to £lO 2s Pd.
