The London tea shop is a useful institution. It has done much to lessen the drinking of wines and spirits (writes the London correspondent of the Melbourne Argus), and it is one of the most notable features of our daily life. The metropolis is covered with a network of excellent houses of refreshment for the man and woman of moderate means, and the food is us good as in any middleclass household. f The ruling price at these places for coffee lias been threepence a cup, and for tea twopence. The new War Budget has raised the duty on tea and coffee, on tea from eightpence to a shilling a pound. The retail prices for these articles have just been increased by a halfpenny a cup.
