IN THE WEST.
THE GALLANT IRISH. . MR. REDMOND AT THE FRONT. CONFIDENCE OF THE TROOPS. Received Nov. 24, 8.45 p.m. London, Nov. 24. Mr. John Redmond, who has just returned from the front in a troopship, attended an Irish recruiting meeting at Queen's Hall, and declared that it had been the most interesting, thrilling, and proudest week of his life. "Our troops are absolutely confident," he said, "and there is no pessimist at "the, front. For every German shell on the Western front we throw five."
, He gave the lie direct to Lord St. David's allegation that there are young aristocrat shirkers on the General Staff. The Irish troops had covered themselves with glory. Belfast and Dublin men were fighting together as true comrades and brother Irishmen.
Mr. Redmond continued: "No power can turn these boys into enemies when they, come home. I told King Albert that Ireland was determined to insist on 'the Belgians' independence at whate*er 'sacrifice."
