NATIONAL REGISTER.

A GRATIFYING RESPONSE. FIGURES NOT ffET AVAILABLE. ; (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Nov. 23. The completion of the general classification of the National Registration schedules does not mean that the work of the Government Statfstician and his stall' is at an end. Each card now bears several official numbers, indicating the area, group, the occupation and the class (from a military standpoint), of the individual who filled it in, but the cards as a whole are still 111 bulk. They have now to lie checked and sorted before the information they contain can be made available in the form of figures. No official information regarding the result of the census is yet available, but there is reason to believe Chat the completed figures will be of a very gratifying character, They will indicate that the resources of the Dominion in able-bodied men of military age are very large, and that the great majority of the men are ready to play their part in the present crisis when the call reaches them.

No proceedings have yet been instituted against men who have failed to supply the information required by t:ie Government in connection with the War Census. The number of these men is understood to be quite small in proportion to the total number of registrations, and there is evidence that the omissions have been due in some cases to carelessness or ignorance, and not to wilful neglect. But there are eases of men who have refused to answer the questions put to them and they will he dealt with presently.
