MOA ROAD BOARD.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board was held at Inglewood on Saturday. Present: Messrs. 11. Trimble (chairman), liridgman, CI. Shoemark, G. Capper, G. Clough, M. Hopson, >J. Williams, A Lawrence, and J. Huckcr. OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer (Mr. W. R. Davies) reported that owing to the continuous bad weather the metalled roads had suli'ered considerably, all being more or less cut up. A good deal of time has been spent in patching these roads. The borough roller had been employed eleven days on the Egmont Road .South, and the road was scarified and rolled in for a distance of 131 chains. The new bridge 011 Kohetc Koay? needed painting and the second bridge was in a very dangerous condition, and something would have to be done as the stringers were absolutely rotten. If it was imposible to build a new bridge, some new stringers, caps, and decking should be got and a new top put on the bridge. The first bridge on Rugby Road was in a bad state and needed re-instating, either in hardwood or concrete. As soon as the weather permitted, the broken . metal on Mangaotea Road would be put 011. Foreman Christian, No. 3 division, had left without giving notice, and Mr. C. Bovett took his place. The overseer recommended that Mr. Bovett should be appointed to the position. On the Bedford Road a small bridge, over a creek near the junction of the Upland Road, had fallen in. General maintenance work which had been carried out on various roads was set out in detail. During the month twelve 12-inch, three IS-inch, and twelve 3-feet pipes had been made. It was decided to appoint -Mr. Govett foreman in No. 3 division, as recommended by the overseer. The question of repairing or replacing the second Kohetc bridge was held over until next meeting.

SPECIAL KATE WANTED. A petition signed by fifteen ratepayers in the Norfolk Road West .special rating district asking the Board to strike, for one year, a special rate of one half-penny in the £ over all the property in this rating district, for the purpose of repairing the Norfolk Road West. The chairman said the rate would bring in about £ls. He pointed out that the required number of ratepayers had not signed the petition. It was decided that if suflicient signatures were received the Board would grant the request.
