Matthews, Gamlin and Co. report a fair yarding at their Inglewood yards last Wednesday. Store and forward cows were in good demand, and all classes sold well, with the exception of springing heifers, which were hard to quit. Prices as follows: —Springing heifers £4 16s to £7, dairy cows £7 to £8 10s, forward cows £0 ito £7 12s 6d, store do. £4 to £5 18s, empty lieifer3 £3 16s to £4 3s, yearling heifers 35s to £ 2Ms Gd, yearling steers £3 lis to £3 14s, fat and forward ewes 18s 9d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency C„ Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Tuesday, November 9, we held our weekly Springing Heifer Sale in our Stratford yards. We had a small yarding, but everything was sold, fair heifers making £0 to £7. poorer sorts £5 12s Od, and dairy cows up to £lO 10s. In our pig pens we had a small yarding of 15 pigs, which sold readily. Small stores 22s to 24s Od, slips 15s. On Friday, November 12, we held our monthly Te Wera sale, when we had a large yarding of 320 head of cattle, 56 sheep, and 3 pigs. Most of the stock was disposed of at very full values, moro particularly for forward store cows. There was a large attendance of the public, and the sale was a great success. At this sale we offered, on behalf of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, on account of Mrs. G. Sangster and Co., one hack, donated by Owen McAloon, Esq., which was sold and resold as follows:—Purchased by O McAloon, Esq. at ss; reoffered on his account and purchased by G. H. Rawlinson, Esq., at ss; re-offered on his account and purchased by A. H. Perry, Esq. (Loan Co.), at ss; re-offered on his account and purchased by C. H. West, Esq., at ss; re-offered on his account and finally purchased by Wm. McAloon, Esq., at ss. Our next Te Wera Sale will be held 011 Friday, December 10. On Tuesday, lfitli inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford Yards, when we had a fair yarding of 230 head, most of which were sold at the following satisfactory prices. Poor store oows from 100s to 119s, aged and thin from 70s to 98s, "ood stores -from 120s to 138s, forward cows 140s to 1555, good cows from 160s to 172s Od, 18-month to 2-year-old heifers (ils to 755, yearling heifers, small, 41s to 50s for fairly well grown cattle, 18month steers 745, yearling steers 40s to 50s, yearling hulls 50s to 07s Gd, dairv bulls £5 fls to £1 17s Gd. In our Dairy Yards we ha/1 the usual entry of springing heifers, and a good attendance, but purchases were few except for cattle of fair quality. Horses were yarded in full numbers, and sold at late" rates. No heavy draughts yarded. Medium. £l7 5s to £25; light harness horses, £9 to £l3 10s: hacks, £9 to £2l; ponies, £4 to £7 10s; weeds, 10s to £2 10s. On Thursday at Westfield store cattle were penned in average numbers. Dairy cows and heifers proved slow of sale, anil sold at from £7 to £9 15s ; aged and inferior cows, £2 to £5: hulls, £6 to £9: empty cows, £5 to £7 15s. On Friday, at Warkworth, we had a large yarding and under spirited bidding practically everything was sold at high prices. At Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday, beef was penned in average numbers. The demand was scarcely as keen as the previous week, although quotations are the same. Oxen sold to £2 6s per 1001b, cows and heifers, £1 14s to £2 4s; steers sold at from £l3 10b to £2O 17s 6d; cows, £0 10s to £l4 10s. A beast sold by Mr. E. Horton, on account of the Patriotic Fund, made £H 2s fid. Calves were penned in large mfimbers, and declined in prices. Runners sold at from £6 lis to £8 17s 6d; ■heavy suckers, £3 to £4 10s; medium, £2 Is to £2 17s; light 17s to £1 I7fl, small and fresh dropped 2s to 12s. Sheep were yarded in full numbers, and showed no improvement in values. Wethers, in wool, sold at from £1 5s Od to £1 las 9d, shorn do. £1 2s to £1 8s 9d; ewes in wool £1 lis Od to £1 14s, flhorn do. 10s Gd to £1 4s 9d; hoggets, £1 2s to £1 16s Od. Lambs, in full supply, were lower in prices. Best quality sold at from 18s 6d to £1 4s 9d; others, lis Od to ' 7 - Pigs were penned in full numbers, and sold at last week's high prices. Heavy baconers, fit 3s to £5 7s, medium £3 13s to £4 Is, light £3 to £3 12s; heavy porkers £3 7s to £4. medium £3 14s to £3 4s, light £2 2s to £2 lis; slips, £1 5s to £1 lis; weaners, none yarded. Oats: Market is slightly easier; fair sales. A grade Gartons, 4s Id; B grade, 4s, ex store. Wheat: In good demand. 'Prices have advanced a little. Best fowl wheat, 5s 4d per bushel; inferior qualities down to 4s lOd. Maize: Prices have dropped considerable, and the demand has eased off. Good local maize, 4; 7d to 4s Bd, ex. store; inferior quality, 4s to 4s 3d. Barley: Very little inquiry for this grain. Bran: Selling steadily at 6 per ton, ex store. Pollard: Supplies fairly short, and prices has advanced. Now selling at £7 15s per ton, ex. store. Chaff: Good quality selling readily at £0 to £0 10s per ton for Southern, and £8 10s to £8 15s for local, ex store. Potatoes: Old potatoes are very scarce, and are fetching £l4 to £ls per ton. New potatoes are also in short supply. Fungus: Scarce; selling readily at 7d per lb for good dry samples. 'Manures: In good demand. Superphos' phate, £5 5s per ton; basic slag, £5 las; bonedust, £8; blood and bone, £8; special turnip manure £6 17s 6d per ton. We submitted and sold average catalogues of hides, skins, and tallow on Thursday. JOHNSONVILLE. ' At .Johnsonville there was a good yarding of fat stock, and a total clearance under the hammer. Fat sheep—Best woolly wethers 40s to 425, extra 48s 9d, medium 33s to 355, inferior 29s to 31s. best shorn wethers 29s to 335. extra 455, medium 23s to 245. inferior 21s to 225, best woolly ewes 38s to 425, medium 31s to 335, inferior 21s to 235. Fat were easier. Best 18s to 20s, medium 16s to 17s, inferior 13s to ]4s Gd. There was a large yarding of pigs. Baconers and porkers were firm, but stores met with an irregular sale.
