LEPPERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent) Lepperton, Friday, j On Thursday evening, several members of the North Taranaki IPatriotie League j visited Lepperton for the purpose of endeavouring to form a sub-branch of the League in the district. There was a good attendance. Mr. F Atkinson pre-1 sided and briefly explained the object] of the visitors, and called on them to address the meeting. This was done by Messrs Beckbessinger and Buchanan, the speakers pointing out first the objects of the League, its constitution, aims and aspirations, and their reason for suggesting that Lepperton be linked up with the other parts of the district and thus forming geographically what should be known as the North Taranaki district, of which Lepperton was a part. The general linos of working were fully explained, as were the results of the conferences at Wellington and Stratford in regard to the establishment of a central organisation. Several questions were asked and satisfactorily answered. It was unanimously resolved that a sub-branch of the North Taranaki Patriotic League be formed in Lepperton. It was decided that the work be left in the hands of a committee of seven, to be appointed from the meeting. So keen was the desire to help that no less than sixteen nominations were received for the position, and after a ballot, the following were declared duly elected: Messrs Atkinson, Brown, Lepper, Roberts, Openshaw, Hellier, and Crowe.
It was resolved that the committee hold office for twelve month,S; that an annual meeting be held in the third week in November of next year; that if any member of the committee absent himself from three consecutive meetings without leave his seat be declared vacant, and the committee take steps to fill it; and that meetings be held fortnightly. At a meeting of tile committee held afterwards, Mr! P. Atkinson was appointed chairman, and Mt. Brown, secretary. A boundary outside the present existing district was defined and will be submitted for approval to the main committee on Monday evening at Waitara. The matter of boundaries between Lepperton and Huirangi will be mutually agreed on. Votes of thanks to the visitors, to the committees who had carried on the good work previously, and to the chair were carried by acclamation. A collection was taken up for "Gallipoli Day," resulting in £2 being handed over.
