HARBOR BOARD.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr. J, B. Connett (chairman) and Messrs N. King, E. Dockrill, J. McCluggage, C. E. Bellringer, E. Maxwell and D. J. Hughes. An apology for absence was received from Mr. J. Marx, SHIPPING AND CARGO. The hartormaster (Captain W. Waller) reported for the five weeks ending November 13 that nineteen steamers, of a total tonnage of 10,491, entered and departed from the port. The imports amounted ■to 5850 tons, 1989 tons of which was coal, 721 tons being for private use, and 1268 tons for the Railway Department. The exports for the same period amounted to 1790 tons, making a total of 7640 tons handled. The report was received, WORK AT THE PORT. The superintendent of works (Mr. F. Henderson) reported for the five weeks ending November 13 that the Paritutu dredged on 23 days, the net time being 198 hours, and removed 83 loads of spoil, amounting to 25,200 tons. In the mid fairway cut 128 hours were spent in removing 35 loads with the buckets, and at the west fairway cut 68 hours were occupied in removing 28 loads with the sand pump. The mid fairway cut has been carried outwards 200 feet and inwards 200 feet, from the last month's working. During the recent rough weather 8i days were occupied in pumping at the west fairway in the shelter of the breakwater. Dredging was stopped for six days owing to rough weather, but two of those days were occupied at the quarterly boiler cleaning and one day in coaling. The Thomas King worked on 18 days (net time 157% hours) and removed 126 loads, amounting to 10.080 tons. Eleven day 9 were lost through rough weather. Two new piles had been driven at the west side of the wharf and general repair work had been carried out. The report was received. A SPECIAL LOAN. ' It was decided that a special loan of | £25,000, being the balance of the £300,j 000 special loan, should be raised by the I issue of 250 debentures of £IOO each, to be repayable on May 1, 1939.
