GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL.
PLANS FOR NEW BUILDING. A HANDSOME STRUCTURE. Plans have been prepared by Mr. I*\ Messenger for the new Girls' High School, to be erected on a site on the Old Hospital Road, and alternative tenders for the building, in concrete and wood, have been called. If it is decided to build in concrete the work is expected to cost over £4OOO. There is also ample room on the site for the erection of a boarding establishment, but in the meantime this part of the scheme has been postponed. The plans for the new school, in concrete with a tiled roof, provide for a handsome and commodious structure of one storey. The frontage will extend about 135 feet, and the front portion of the building will comprise five classrooms, each of which will accommodate about thirty pupils. Next to an ample porch is a room for the headmistress, while accommodation is also provided for a library Behind these rooms runs a wide corridor, from the opposite side of which entrance is gained to the laboratory, which is 30 feet by 20 feet, and to the cookery room, which will be of similar dimensions. A cloak-room and a room for the use of the staff are also' provided in this portion of the building. The centre and rear portion of the building has been reserved for an assembly hall, 40 feet by 30 feet, at one end of which a stage will be erected. The space underneath the assembly hall will be used as a photography room, and for storing bicycles, etc.
