RUSSIA'S TASK.

The commander of a Russian Division on the Austrian front has recommended the pensioning 01 the widow of a priest named Veremchuk and the ennoblement of his children, in recognition of Veremcliuks wonderful heroism. When a aeouting party was about to be ambushed, Veremchuk sailed them across the river in his own boat under heavy nre. He wag shot in the hip while re* turning after landing the soldiers, and was so weak from loss of blood that he lost control of the rudder, drifted down stream, and fell into the hands fli the Austrians. The peasants heard cries, and nert day found him with his head battered in, his mouth filled with clay, his bodv covered with gashes, his collar-bone broken, and knee tendons cut. There was evidence that he had been tortured. n>» body was riddled with bullets.
