A MAORI'S PRIDE.

IN THE DEATH OF HIS SON. A TOUCHING LETTER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Nov. 15. The following letter has reached the Prime Minister from a Maori father whose son fell at the front while serving with the Maori force on Gallipoli:— "0 Chiefs of the Government of New Zealand and of the Maori people, I now reply to your merciful announcement of the death of my son, Ho Wiremu Rori. It is a source of pride and satisfaction to me to have your assurance of your concern in my loss of my son. Accept now my assurance that I do not begrudge him in this world conflict; it is enough for me to reflect that he died doing his duty to his country In that sense, then, I do not grieve for him, but naturally the pangs of- a parent are mine. As. it is written, 'There is a time for sorrow and a time for rejoicing.' I thank you for your kind concern, and will add some words of farewell to my departed and beloved son: Depart, thou descendant of Rahiri. Farewell, thou descendant of Tupoto, Of Kohuru, of Tama-ki-te-ra; Thou descendant of Heaven above And of Earth beneath, Of Tematea-uri, of Pareaute, and of Te Araiti; Thou representative of the warrior tribe of Ngatirangi. "Let that sufiice as a farewell to my son. From your humble friend.—Wiremu Hori."
