HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the High School Board was held last night, when there were present: Messrs E. Dockrill (chairman), \V. N. Ewing, F. W. Atkinson, D. Hutchen, J. S. Fox, D. H. Mc- ' Hardy, and E. P. Webster, THE GIRLS' SCHOOL. Miss Hodges, principal of the Girls' School reported that the roll number in both senior and junior departments was unchanged. The'junior department removed to St. Andrew's Hall on November 8, and was finding its new quarters most satisfactory. CERTIFICATES IN LIEU OF PRIZES. Miss Hodges also reported that it was time some decision was come to with regard to the certificates to be presented to the girls in place of prizes at the end of the year. The prize winners were making a considerable saeriI fice, and the certificates should be made ! valuable by being signed by the Governor. Tho matter should be attended to at once, as time was getting short. ' The chairman remarked that he had mentioned the matter of the boys' certificates to the Minister of Education, who said that the Board w4s placing a big proposition before the Governor, as if he signed certificates for one school, he would probably have to do so for all. It was pointed out by members that, as in the ease of the boys, it was the girls who were giving up their prizes and it was decided to ask Miss Hodges to write to the Governor on the matter. The Board had previously decided that Mr. Moyos should write regarding the boys' certificates. The question of the design of the certificates was left in the hands of the chairman and the principals of the two schools, GENERAL. The Treasury notified payment to the Board's account of £268 10s 9d, being apportionment of .secondary schools reserves and endowments for quarter ending September 30. It was resolved to give the art instructor an increase of £5 per annum,
