THE WHEAT MARKET. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright London, Nov 12. The Grain and Seed Reporter says that while there was justification for the Government controlling the wheat trade this season in order to prevent famine prices in Australia, it is not clear that such control is necessary for the coming season, nor is it certain that it will he beneficial to Australian growers. It would probably be better if the disposal were left in the hands of the grain trade. If wheat is offered at fixed prices it will have to compete with Canada, the United States of America, and the Argentine, all of which countries are in a position to accept the best price without awaiting for instructions. A meeting of Australian shippers resolved to assist the board to carry out its scheme to the best advantage. i'.OXDON WOOL SALES London, Nov. 12. At the wool sales there was a strong market and an excited demand for crossbred*. Bradford wool was strong and there was a. somewhat excited market. There was a large inquiry, but the sale was limited owing to combing difficulties. The prices realised were: G4's, 38d; supers, 37d; common 60's 36d; 56's, 33d; 50's, 30d; 46's, 26d; 40's, 24d. There was excited competition at full prices for crossbred*. Combing merinos were unchanged. Faultics sold more freely. SWEDISH BUTTER. Stockholm, Nov. 12. j Sweden has prohibited the exportation of buttei. GENERAL MARKETS. London, Nov. 12, Copper, £75 10s to £75 15s v electrolytic, £9O 10s to £9l 10s. Tin, £167 5s to £l6O 15s. Pig-iron, 08s /id. Lead, £2". 10s to £24 10s, Spelter. £.SS to £B3. 1 Silver, 2+MM. Sugar,—Quiet and unchanged. Butter.—Best is firmer, but secondary is almost unsaleable. There are enormous supplies of Siberian in the warehouses and docks awaiting disI charge and also en route from Archangel. It is estimated that it amounts to quite "50,000 cases.. Fair quantities from the United States are arriving. Cheese.—Firm, owing to the announcement that the Government is buying in yew Zealand. About 88s is asked for the Otaki's shipment which is to arrive. Canadian is quoted at from 65s to 88s.
