MARRIAGES IN WELLINGTON.
SUDDEN INCREASE IN NUMBER. Wellington, Nov. 10. The number of marriage ltccnses issued in Wellington last month was 1(14, twice as many as in the month of October, 1913, and October, IflM. During September the marriages solemnised were 07, while in June—the previous best month—the figures were 110. Last month 48 marriages took place in the registrar's office. To a reporter the deputy-registrar said: —"It is striking the number of young men who were married during the month, particularly during the period immediately following the issue of the registration cards. Of course, the soldiers going away at the beginning of the month helped to increase the rate, but after that we became so busy that I had to engage &n| extra clerk. The rush was undoubtedly caused by the national registration. The majority of the men were from '2O to 23 years of age, some of them fine strapping fellows who would prob, ably make good recruits. An unusual number of men were under 21. The increase came suddenly, and the falling oft" has come just as suddenly."
