THE HOCKING AND THE ZEELANDIA. FIRE ON A SUGAR STEAMER. Received Nov. 13, li.-l.~i a.m. Washington, Nov. VI. Great Britain has informed tlie United States that the cause of the detention of the American steamer Hocking, which was seized by a British prize crew and taken to Halifax, was to determine whether the vessel was enemy-owned, although flying the American Ihig. British authorities are investigating the reported forced searching of the American steamer Zeelandia, at frogresso (Mexico), by a party from a Ik'itish cruiser. The authorities state that thev have information which leads them to'the belief that the Zcelandia, when searched, was lying more' than three miles fram the shore, and therefore she was not in a neutral port. Halilra, Nov. 12. What is believed to be a. piece ot fuse was found by stevedores among the packages of sugar they ivo:'c removing from the steamer Rio Images, the vessel that arrived here with In e cargo of sugar alire, and much of »hieii was destroyed. LIGHTHOUSE TENDER SUNK. London, Nov. 1!. The Trinity House vessel Irene has been sunk and twenty-two men are missing.
