CONCILIATION COURT.
LABORERS' UNION CLAIMS. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. T. llarle Giles, presided at a sitting of the Conciliation Court yesterday, when the ease of the New Plymouth Laborers' Union and a number of employers was brought forward. The assessors associated with the Commissioner were: For the Union: Messrs. Ford, Cathro, and M. J. Reardon (Wellington); for the employers: Messrs. W. F. Brooking, 0. N. Firth, a nd •J. Boon.
'Proceedings were taken in committee, but last night we received the following information from the Commissioner: Exemption from the claims of the Union was granted the Taranaki Produce Company, and the Tai'anaki County Council. An application for exemption made by W. F. Short, monumental mason, was refused. The clauses in the Union's demands relating to hours of work, overtime, holidays. under-age workers, scope of award, and payment of wages were agreed to] as were other machinery clauses, but those referring to wage-s and preference were referred to the Arbitration Court. The Court will sit at 10 o'clock on Friday morning to hear the carriers' di»put*.
