PERSONAL.

Private Allan Maxwell, Taranaki's well-known boxer, who was invalided home, was in Hawera yesterday. Mr. H. H. Sharp, A.M.1.C.E., of Greymouth, succeeds Mr. (J. T. .Murray a$ 'Resident Engineer at Stratford. Mr. K. 11. Hutton, manager of the Ohura branch of the Bank of New Zealand, lias been promoted to Inglewood.

After a silence of ten months, Private Dominie Sheahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheahan, of Stratford, writes to his mother from Alexandria, stating that he is quite well. Mrs. Kelly, of the Dominion Hotel, Hawera, received word yesterday that her son John had gone to a Malta hospital, wounded, and that another son, Thomas, had recovered and gone again to the front.

The Rev. E. Maekie, of Winton, Southland, has been offered the vacant Presbyterian pulpit at Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, in succession to the late ChaplainMajor Grant, recently killed at the Dardanelles.

Nurse S. h. Nicoll, who has ncen ad 7 mitted to the 19th General Hospital, Alenxadria, was formerly on tile stall of the New Plymouth Hospital, and is a sieter of Mr. W. P. Nicoll, of New Plymouth. Nurse Nicoll was one of the survivors from the Marquette. Mr. A. L. Bempton, lati manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Whangaivi, who was recently transferred to Auckland, has since received notification of his further transference to Palmerston North j where he will remain for six months.

The death occurred at Auckland on Sunday of Mr. Laurie Abrahams. The late Mr. Abrahams arrived from London 10 years ago, and entered the serI vice of .Messrs Hancock and Co. He v,'a3 unmarried, and wns 33 years of ,age. While in Auckland Mr. Abrahams became very popular as an amateur entertainer, and was a valuable member of the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society.

j Dr. de Lautour, of Kilbirnie, Wellington, has received a cable stating that his son, Private (405) Cecil Andrew de Lautour, Rhodesian Regiment, died of pneumonia at Kilmandane, East African Protectorate, on November 4. The deceased soldier was the second son of Dr. de Lautour, was horn at Oamaru in 18S0, educated at Waitaki High S-.hool and Otago Boys' High School, and served in ■Smith Africa with the Bth, 7th, and Bth New Zealand Contingents through the Boer War. This is the second bereavement the family have sustained, two of six sons 011 active service having lost their lives.
