WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Yesterday. Word was received here on Saturday last of the death of Mr. Waata Wiremu Hipanga, of Putiki, near Wanganui. Mr. Hipanga had resided here for a number of years and took a keen interest in the welfare of the town . The internment took place <it Wanganui. 1 omitted to mention in my last notes the farewell to Mr. N. D. Day, who was on the teaching staff at the publifl school, and has recently been transferred to the Central School, New Plymouth. Last Saturday week, Mr. Day was the guest of a number of friends at "The Bach," where a very enjoyable evening was spent, and as a small token of esteem in which he was held here, was the recipient of a case of pipes and a tobacco pouch. The s.s. Arapawa, which was due here this morning, has been detained at Onehunga, owing to the heavy seas on the Manukau Bar. The ladies of the committee of the North Taranaki Patriotic League were well rewarded in their efforts to make the Red Cross Market a success last Saturday, and succeeded in raising the sum of £2S 17s 9d. It was decided to hold the next market day on December 4th.
