EAST END BATHING RESERVE.
ANNUAL MEETING. There was an attendance of twenty members at the annual meeting of the East End Bathing Committee, on Monday night. Mr. F. C. J. Bellringer presided. The chairman stated that he had been unable to prepare a report, but he made a general statement. The recommendations lor the enlarging of the pavilion cost close on £SOO, and the result was that the committee was in occupation of one of the finest halls in the town. This time lasfi year they had one with them who was associated with the reserve since its inception, He was now, with others, helping to uphold the honor of the Empire at Gallipoli. He referred to Major Fletcher, their late secretary. The chairman referred also in appreciative terms of Messrs W. Davidson and Reg. Sole, who died while fighting for their country. Likewise, there were several members of the committee, all hard-working men, who have obeyed the call.' Since Major Fletcher had gone, the assistant secretary (Mr. W. Roch) had been appointed secretary and had carried out his duties in the best possible manner. The reserve was known throughout the district. There had been thousands of visitors during the past twelve months, and compliments were received from all sides of the conveniences and comforts. The committee had received recompense for their labor in the kind references made by visitors. No doubt the men had done much for the reserve, but the success achieved was to a large extent due to the ladies. The Borough Council recognised in the committee a body that spent money wisely. The band rotunda was a forward step. The committee had received a large amount of help in the way of materials, and their heartiest thanks were due to *ll concerned. He thanked the committee for their co-operation for the advancement of the reserve, which was one of the finest in New Zealand. The buildings were second to nose. His thanks were especially due to the secretary, who "had given up much of his time.
