The latest list of New Zealanders embarked for London from Gallipoli contains the names of Corporal H. L, Spratt, of Stratford. He is a son of Mr. H. Spratt, of Hawera, and was formerly on the staff of Messrs Welsh and McCarthy. Sergeant Albert Rouse, who enlisted in Hawera a few months ago and went into training soon obtained a sergeantship, and thereupon began to qualify himself for a commission. His numerous friends will be pleased to hear that he has succeeded in this, and has been appointed to a lieutenancy.—Star. A Press Association message from Timaru Btates that Mr. H. G. Hill has resigned the position of general manager of the Bristol and Dominions Producers' Association, which he has held since the institution of the company. Sergeant Stanley Paul (son of Mrs. J. Paul, of New Plymouth) has been appointed chief dispenser on the hospital ship Marama. The death took place at Manly (N.S.W.) on October 28 of Mr. Syd. Day, the well-known printer and publisher, from meningitis. Deceased, who was 47 years of age, was, says an Australian paper, at one time the holder of records for motor travelling between Sydney and Melbourne, nnd between Melbourne and Adelaide. Recently lie purchased The Theatre and The Lone Hand magazine. He was the test-known art poster printer in Australasia, and was as well known in Sydney and Melbourne as the Mayors of those cities.
