BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council took place last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) and Crs. L. M. Monteath, .1. S. S. Medley, J. Hayden, F. E. Wilson, A IT. Johnstone, W. A. Coliis, W. F. Short, Hill, A. E. Sykes, and J T Mannix. An apology for absence was received from Cr. A. E. Watkins. APPOINTMENT OF SANITARY INSPECTOR. The Sanitation . Committee recommended that the general inspector should be relieved of the following duties that are now carried out by him:—lnspector of dangerous goods, sanitary inspector, and inspector of buildings. The committee further recommended that a qualified inspector should be appointed to carry out these duties, and also those of a building superintendent, at a salary of £2OS per annum, and that in view of the above the salary of the general inspector be reconsidered by the Council in February next. It wa* further recommended that the Sanitation Committee should be appointed a standing committee, with power to supervise the carrying out of the provisions of any Act of Parliament or any by-law affecting public health, to the collection and disposal of garbage and refuse, and generally in regard to any matter affecting the sanitation of the borough and the preservation of public health. The report was adopted. RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee recommended that the request of the East End Reserve Committee with reference to bridging the Te Henui Stream from Watson Street be referred, to the chairman to report upon. Other small matters were referred to. The report was adopted.
