A LEADER OF TROOPS. SIR JOHN FRENCH. Times and Sydney Sun Services. Londin, Nov. 4. Colonel Repington, commenting on .the recent lighting, says that if there is anything to regret it is that' with the growth of the armies the great qualities of Sir John French as a le.ader of troops are no longer available in the fighting line, as he has been forced to delegate to others the fighting duties. There lias ibeen no other sudi master since Lord Roberts.
MISS CAVELL'S MURDER. A MEMORIAL IN PARIS. Paris, Nov. 4. I.e Matin says that one of the greatest sculptors ha 3 been commissioned to execute a great bas-relief of Miss Cavell'a execution for presentation to the City of Paris.
ON ARRAS FRONT, LIVELY GRENADE CONTESTS Wellington, Nov. 5. The High Commissioner reports under date London, November 4 (4.55 p.m.) There were lively -grenade combats during the night in the trenches on the route from Lille to the south-east of Neuville-St, Vaast.
FRENCH SUCCESS. IN THE CHAMPAGNE. Paris, Nov 4. A communique says:—A rapid and vigorous attack enabled us to re-occupy the bulk of the advanced trenches at Chasse Farm, in the district of Champagne. The enemy was driven out, notwithstanding desperate resistance and the use of sprays of liquid fire.
