A Txmdon cable states tliat Mr. George Cave, K.C., has boon appointed' Solicitor

At Tuesday's meeting of the Wellington Presbytery, the Rev. J. Gibson Smith, of St. Andrew's Church, was nominated for the position of Moderator of the General Assembly of the 'Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for 19161017. The death is announced from Dunedin of Mr. T. W. Kempthorne, one of the most prominent men in that city. The deceased, who was just over 80 years of age, was the founder of the business now known afP Kempthorne, Prosser and Co.'s New Zealand Drug Company, and was managing director until his retirement, ten or twelve years ago. He has left a son (Mr. Orlando TCempthorno, at one time in Wellington, but now in Western Australia), and three daughters.

Mr. Colin Fraser, at present stationed in Australia, but formerly assistant Government. Geologist in New Zealand, is on a visit to the Dominion. Mr. Fraser is at present voluntarily devoting his energies to the manufacture in Australia of high explosive shell cases. It is with a view to collecting information in this directon that he is at present in New Zealand.

It has been ascertained that Major Walter Harry Nichols, who lias been posted as missing since September, died while a prisoner of war at Munich. The late Major Nichols, who is a brother to Colonel Nichols, Officer Commanding the Otago district, served in the Boer War &b adjutant, and took his part in the present struggle as brigade-major in Prii.ee Albert's Regiment, stationed in France. Mr. and Mrs. John Horton, of Bangiora, celebrated their golden wedding on Saturday last, and many friends were present to congratulate them. They were married at Tysoe, Warwickshire, England, on October 31, lSO'i, and came to New Zealand in December, 1H74. They went direct to Rinigiorn, where they have resided ever since. They have five sons and three daughters, twenty-seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mr. Ilorton is 73 years of age and Mrs. Horton 71.
