STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday Mr. Purcell, of Wairoa, is being transferred to the Stratford Post Office to succeed Mr. W. Mulvey, who has been transferred to New Plymouth. Mr. A. 11. Thomas, of the local Post Oflice staff, has received notice of transfer to Eltham.

Mr. i{. D. Lewers is making alterations to his business premises. Mr. N. J. King's staff is busy at the work transforming the present windows into more up-to-date style, including an Island window in the centre of the main entrance.

The senior and junior cadets paraded in Victoria Park this afternoon, under Lieut. Gray, and with the assistance of two returned soldiers. After many revolutions, in which the drill d[ the boys was favorably commented upon by the public present, the ceremony of saluting the flag was carried out. Then Chaplain-Capt. Header addressed the boys on their duties as soldiers, and was listened to with rapt attention. At the conclusion, his Worship the Mayor called for three cheers for the King, which were lustily given. Owing to the Municipal Band receiving no notification of the time the parade was being held, they arrived on the scene too late. The committee of the Stratford Croquet Club postponed the opening of tile courts till Saturday afternoon. The Stratford auctioneers are holding a social and dance in the Town Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The proceeds are in aid of the Sick and Wounded Fund. The ladies of the Stratford district have responded right loyally to the call for beds for the second hospital ship. Ten beds have been completed, and they were given by the following: Stratford Ladies' Patriotic Committee, 3; Tututawa Ladies, 2; Toko Ladies, 2; Xgaere Ladies, 1; Mahoe Ladies, 1; Girls' Friendly Society, 1. The Lowgarth Dairy Company's first shipment of cheese this season brought 82s fid per ton.
