HAWERA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

ANNUAL MEETING. (From the Star.) The meeting of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs L. A. Bone (president), J. G. Osborne, C. A. Struck, J. W. Harding, E. Dixon, A. W. Webster, H. D. Caplen, C. H. Walker, F. G. Magnusson, and B. S. Sage (secretary). An apology was received from Mr. .T. A, Duflill. The president formally moved the adoption of the report and balancesheet.' Mr. .1. \V. Harding seconded the motion, which was carried.

EDUCATION BOARD DISTRICTS. Mr. E. Dixon said the president had referred in his report to the possibility of this part of the district being joined to the Education Board, He thought the Chamber should strenuously oppose this proposal, and as the Minister for Education would be in Hawcra on Tuesday evening he thought it would be a good thing if a deputation from the Chamber, with representatives of the Technical School Committee, the District High School Committee, Farmers' Union and the A. and P. Association, should wait upon the Minister and emphatically enter a protest against this part of the district becoming part of the Taranaki Board. Unless the Chamber moved quickly in the matter it would bo found that Southern Taranaki would be soon tacked on to the Taranaki Board. It was decided that Messrs L. A. Bone and J. G. Osborne should wait upon the Minister, and that the secretary communicate with the other local bodies in seeking their co-operation with the deputation to the Minister.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. A. Duffill; vice-presidents, Messrs J. G. Osborne and A. Blair; secretary, Mr. R. S. Sage (re-elected); treasurer, Mr. F. G. Magnusson (re-elected): auditor, Mr. A. W. Webster (re-elected); council, Messrs C. H. Walker, L. S. Tarrant, H. D. Caplen, W. T. Good, J W. Harding, E. C. Hayton, C. A. Strack, 13. Dixon, L. A. Bono, and J. C. Smith. The secretary was instructed to write to the Minister and the member for the district with reference to the erection of the workmen's homes, which had been held up.
