In the Assembly, Mr. Waddell gave notice of a resolution advocating the abolition of all spirits, which should only be allowed to be sold by Government agents, Sales of wines and beers would be allowed to continue. STATE PURCHASE OF WHEAT. Sydney, Oct, 27. In the Assembly, Mr. Hall' stated that the Government importation of wheat last year was 25o.fiCfl quarters, which cost £724,808. The amount sold was 198,552 quarters and the price 7s to 79 fid.

WOOL FOR ITALY. Melbourne, Oct. 27. Mr. fionar Law has cabled to Mr. Peacock that the Imperial Government is allowing wool and woollen manufactures to he sent to Italy on the Government's guarantee that raw wool and heavy fabrics will not be exported, and that light fabrics will bo exported only to safe destinations. THE MELBOURNE TRAGEDY. Perth, Oot. 27. The identities of Greenwood and Williams, who committed suicide together, have been established. The former is described as a neurotic pessimist, who held that life was not worth living and believing in the affinity of souls 89 against marriage. Williams was well connected. Her father recently died and her relatives were visiting England. She succumbed to Greenwood's mental domination. FEDERAL 'POLITICS. Melbourne, Oct. 27. In tho Ministerial re-election Messrs. Archibald and Spence wore thrown out of office, owing to the stand they recently made against the unions. The vacant places were filled by Messrs Webster (New South Wales), O'Malley (Tasmania), and Higgs (Queensland). The portfolios have not been allotted. Parliament opens to-day. The most important work of the session is the authorisation of a further 25 million loan.
