DISTRICT NEWS.

JNGLEWOOD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Labor Day was eagerly looked for by the golf players as a match had been arranged with the Hawera club for that day. There was just a tinge of disappointment amongst our folks when only seven players from Hawera put in an appearance, but that feeling immediately disappeared when both visitors and local members fraternised over a cup of tea at the Empire Luncheon Rooms. A four-ball match was played in the morning, which resulted in Inglewood winning by one up. Luncheon was provided in the pavilion by the local ladies, and needless to say, heartily appreciated by all. The afternoon's play was as follows, Inglewood players being mentioned first in each case: H. Thompson 0, v. O'Callaghan 0. F. Brown 0, v. Bayley, 2 up. E. Surrey 0, v. Sutton 7 up and G. Geo. Gudgeon 2 up, v. Prato, 0. J. Sutherland 0, v. Dailey, 5 up and 4. J. Darlow 0, v. Glasson, 4 up and 3. Marshall, 7 up and 5, v. Quinton, 0. Hawera winning in the aggregate by one game. On Thursday, a match will bo played and designated the Red Cross match. The entrance fee is Is, and the proceeds are to be given to the Red Cross Fund. The winner receives a trophy presented by Mr. Geo. Gudgeon. The cause being so worthy it is anticipated that a great number will nominate.

OHJNAKK The annual meeting of the Seaside Society was held on Friday evening, there being a good attendance of members, consisting of: Messrs Knell (president), A. Clarke, K. Cannell, E. Gieig, G. W. Stubbs, J. Greenhill, D. Ross, Mildenhall, and secretary W. Blyth. The annual report congratulated the members on the successful season, and the good progress made in improving the bay. The construction of the concrete wall wag the most important work yei done by the society. The plantation had also been considerably improved, and it was hoped the society would continue to do good work and make it one of the most attractive sea-side resorts in the Dominion. The balance-sheet showed the society to have a credit balance of £SO. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, on the motion of Messrs. Knell and Mildenhall. The 'election of officers resulted: President, Mr. W. J. Knell; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. C. Dudley, J. Macfie, D. McGregor, M. J. Brennan and L. E. Jackson; committee. Messrs. Stubbs, Greenhill, Ross, Cannell. Grcig, Clarke, Mildenhall, Burton, Blyth, Million. The secretary, Mr. W. Blyth, declined to accept office, and the appointment of his successor was held over till next meeting. The following were elected a tent committee: Messrs. Clarke, Burton, Mildenhall. The date of holding the annual fete was held over until next meeting. A bonus of £3 3s was voted to the secretary!

Mr. Mcßeynolds, when driving his trap into Qpunake on Sunday evening, met with an accident. His horse iook fright at a passing motor and swerved suddenly, ejecting Mr. Mcßeynolds on to the main road, near the Opunake Hotel. Mr. Lyttle pulled up lus motor and conveyed Mr. Mcßeynolds to the doctor's. No serious injury was reported, but a B&fltx ghaklnx np most have occurred

which will necessitate a few days rest. The horse, which has always proved a very quiet one, after leaving Mr. Mo Reynolds by the wayside bolted around several streets until finally caught. Mr. L. K. Jackson ia severing his connection with the Opunake branch of the Farmers' Co-operative Society. Next Monday will be Red Cross day in this district. The Egmont Patriotic League will undertake the collection.

WAITARA. The winners of the North Taranaki Patriotic League's Art Union which was drawn at Urenui on Monday were: First price: Swiss carvings, Mr. C. Kettle (Waitara); 2nd prize, Oil painting "Mitre Peak": Mr. Mouatt (Urenui); 3rd prize: Miss Mary Gribbon (Waitara). The drawing was under the supervision of Messrs. A. H. Hakombe and E, H, Pigott, chairman and secretary of the Urenui gala function.
