DISPERSAL SALE OF MR. E. GRIFFITHS' JERSEY HERD 1 . i The dispersal sale of Mr. E. Griffiths'! due herd of pedigree Jerseys at 'the farm, Bell Block on Wednesday. 20th inst., as was expected attracted buyers from all parts of the district and the Dominion. The stock were in the pink of condition, and thanks to Mr. Griffiths' excellent arrangements, everything pass-| ed off without a hitch. Commencing with the cows bidding dragged for some time and there were many bargains, some exceptionally choice animals being knocked down at prices which should prove highly remunerative to the fortunate purchasers. As the sale pw>gressed, prices improved and the yearling bulls, heifers and calves sold to better advantage, although amongst these there were some decided snips. Of the fooner, 'P.M. was decidedly cheap, and Mr J. lloulston, of Pukekohe, is to be congratulated on "securing so promising a young bull. The old veteran, K.C.8., should, with luck, prove a highly payable investment for Mr. Clements, of Northern Wairoa. In Royal Rose, who topped the price for yearling bulls, Mr. G. P. Ewing secured a remarkably fine son of K.C.8., whose stock should be heard of later. In bull calves, Messrs. E. Hoskin, Opunake, and John Hale, New Plymouth paid 45 and 41 guineas, respectively, for two sons of Petune's Noble, and K.C.8., who if breeding and appearances go for anything should be a tower of strength to their herds late: on. In the imported bull, Petune Noble," Mr. H. B. Lepper is to be congratulated in securing what should prove to be a veritable goldmine, judging from the appearances of his calves, which left nothing to be desired. Coming to t)ie cows, from a Dominion breeders' point of view, it is to he regretted that so fine a type of cow as Mercedes Noble Queen should go to Australia, however, she will be worthily represented by her three beautiful daughters, who were secured by Messrs. J. Roulston, Pukekohe, Fred Hoskin, Opunake and C. E. Goodson, Hawera. Where so many animals of uniform excellence were sold it would be invidious to make comments further, suffice it is to say that almost without exception buyers received more than value for their money. While it is regretted that Mr. Griffiths' fine herd would be non-exist-ent, its dispersal would do much to raise the standard of excellence in the herds of those who were fortunate enough to purchase at the sale, and Mr. Griffiths, who is a genuine sport, will no doubt derive considerable satisfaction in this knowledge.
