NOTES FROM BRITAIN.
FUNDS W>R WOUNDED NEW ZEALANDERS. London, Oct. 22. There are ' now 4600 New Zealand wounded men in England. The coat of supplying the accessary comforts makes great inroads upon the funds of the War Contingent Committee, and unless further assistance is immediately received from New Zealand.the committee will find a difficulty, ,in view of the approach of winter, in supplying the needed comforts. Several thousand pounds will be necessary to tide over the next few months. Australian homeward freights are rising daily, owing to the Greek and Roumanian tonnage withdrawn and the numiber of steamers commandeered for the Dardanelles. Ninety shillings a ton is offered for steamers, but there are no takers. Another difficulty is that to use ships for Australian wheat would prevent them bringing thrice the amount of foodstuffs from America in the same period. Two men were charged with signalling to the enemy from the roof of a hotel during a recent aiir raid. The military applied for the custody of the accused, which the magistrate granted. Times *nd Sydney Sun Services. London, Oct. 82.
Canadian emigration officers in London are not assisting slackers to escape enlistment. The are told that Canada has no room for them at present. The Lord Ma.yor of London invites every man to take Lord Derby's appeal personally to heart. We want a torrent of recruits to give a defiant message l to Germany and to pour men into the field until victory is won.
