TO-DAY'S CARNIVAL.

PICNIC AT TilK EAST END., With the approach of summer people - * thoughts turn to the seaside and the natural attractions of the beach at the east end have beeu so enhanced by the work of the Bast End Bathing Reserve Committee that the locality* offers a pleasant recreation ground for old and young. Given fine weather East End beach will to-day be a scene of leisure and laughter, for the committee havo arranged for a monster carnival to tak place at the reserve. Everything that will contribute to a pleasant day at the seaside has been included in the wealth of attractions. At noon attention will be directed to the East End by a spectacular procession, which will march from the Drill Hall to the beach, and on arrival there the fun will commence. There are competitions of all descriptions, side-show* are numerous and varied, while a babyshow is a prominent feature of the proi I gramme. The Citizens' Band will play I a programme of music, and refreshments will be obtainable all day. In the evening a social and dance is to be held iu the pavilion on the beach. Half the proceeds of the carnival will he given to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and this fact alone should assist toward* tfr tracting a huge •attendance,
