INSPIRE PICTURES. The new programme shown last nighl featured Edison's star comedy, "Win Goes There?" When Lieut. Newman known as "Toppy," proposed and wai accepted, be was the most surprised mai in the world. Kate therefore tool things into her own hands, and wrote proposing an elopement, and telling hin to meet her at Mrs. Hadley's boarding house in the village, near the militax; camp. Both Lieutenants Upton am Enright planned to elopo with thei. sweethearts, and also arranged to mee at Mrs. Hadley's. Toppy secured hi; leave, but Upton and Enright were un successful, and so asked Toppy to 100 l out for the girls. In due time, Gert rude and Grace arrived at the boarding house. Mr. Wilson and Gertrude' guardian had discovered their plans, how ever, and tried every means to preven carrying them out. Everything ra: smoothly, however, until Tom Wheele arrived to marry Cou3in Julia, and Topp; loaned him a suit of clothes, as he ha< fallen from his bicycle and spoiled hi own. Mr. Wilson had secured a war rant for the arrest of a young offlcernaipe unknown—and when the soldier appeared on the scene, it was Wheele they arrested, arrayed in Toppy's uh form. He escaped, however, and return ed to the lions'o- Mafte aespcrate ly the fact that Kate ha<J arrived, and eri tirely misconstrued his attentions to th two young women, Toppy dressed himsel in the bonnet and gown of Aunt Sam antha, whose arrival was momentarll; expected, and so planned things that h sent Mr. Wilson and Gertrude's guardia: on a wild goose chase after two boy disguised in the girls' dresses. Everything turned out well in the end, when a minister, hearing the turmoil, entered, and was pressed into service to perform the three marriage ceremonies. Other 61ms were: "Their One Love," "His Convert" and "Story of a Story" (dramas), "The Eoyal Mint" (interest) and the latest War Topical. ROYAL PICTURES. Next Saturday's new programme of Royal Pictures promises tq he an excellent collection. "Droppington's Family Tree," a Keystone star comedy, with Chester Conklin in the lead, and "Hearts United," a Reliance star drama, are the main attractions. On the supporting programme is an Eclair scenic, entitled "On the Banks of the Sea of, Marmora." This film is specially interesting, showing as it does Constantinople and a closer view of the actual walls which protect the Turkisli capital, as seen from the sea. After seeing this it is hard to realise what is actually taking place in such a peaceful-looking country. Other films are: "McQua.de of the Traffic Squad" (drama), "Two by Two" (comedy) and the latest Topical Budget. "THE MIKADO." The New Plymouth Operatic Society is making capital progress in its preparation of Gilbert and Sullivan's popular comedy opera, "The Mikado," which is to be staged at the Theatre Royal next Tuesday, and the following two nights. The choruses are well forwSrd, and the principals arc showing really good appreciation of the spirit of the opera. The final rehearsals are now in full swing, and the opera promises to be the brightest and most scintillating performance that our amateurs have put on. The scenery, which is being specially painted for the occasion by Mr. A. M." Bradbury, promises to eclipse anything the Society has j<vcr been able to show previously, and is really gorgeous. It will give some idea of the size of the scenery when it is mentioned that every bit of available space on the stage has had to be used up to get it in. The whole of the profits are being given to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, so that the society's effort this year is a purely patriotic one. Box plans for the season will open at Collier's Music Warehouse next Saturday morning at S p.m.
