RED. CROSS SOCIETY.
A PROPOSED CONFERENCE. MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Liverpool, yesterday evening sent the following memo to the press of the Dominion:— To the People of New Zealand:— "As I have received man}' enquiries regarding Red Cross matters, I think it would be well to hold a meeting, with the ohject of co-ordinating effort and preventing overlapping. I propose, therefore, to invite two representatives from each of the four centres of the Order of St. John, and one from cacli of the sub-centres, while at the same time I shall be very glad if other Societies working for the same object would also send one representative. The whole position could then be discussed, and it is hoped that as the outcome of the. meeting a more satisfactory basis will be arrived at. It is proposmi va hold a meeting at Government House, Wellington, on Wednesday, November 10, at 10.15 a.m., and it is particularly requested that all Societies desiring to be represented will communicate with the aide-de-camp in writing, stating the name of the Society, and also that of its representative, so that some estimate can be formed as to the probable size of the meeting."
