THE CALL FOR MEN.
BIG NOVEMBER DRAFT. GOVERNMENT WILL FORM SPECIAL RESERVE. THE RECRUITING POSITION. Wellington, Saturday. The Government has definitely decided to accede to the request of the Imperial authorities for the formation of a special reserve of 10 per cent, on the strength of the Main Expeditionary Force, over and above the ordinary reinforcements. This means that 3500 men will be required to go into camp next month, 2300 for the reinforcements and 1000 for -the reserve. The drafts after that will be at the rate of 2500 per month. Trained men from the reserve will pass into the reinforcements as required and be replaced by recruits. The Defence Minister (Hon. J. Allen) mentioning this matter to a reporter, said the formation of the reserve would mean that the Dominion would have 1000 men on hand to meet a special call at any time. The scheme had been suggested by the Imperial authorities, and the New Zealand Government had consented. He felt sure that the men of the country would respond to the special call and enable him to form the reserve, while at the same time maintaining the ordinary reinforcements.
