The square of a certain town in the States was located atiout a mile from the railway statiodn. A negro named George hud a hoot'-blaelcing stand near the square. One day, while George was at work, a man .fame up and began to quarrel with liis customer. After some heated words, one of the men drew a revolver and llred on the other. Several weeks later, when the ease came up for trial, George was the star witness. "Xow, George," said the attorney, ,:deisei'ibe just how this shooting took place." 'Yessirh, Boss. De gen'man fired two shots. Yessuli, dey went bang-bang! Jes like dat, suh." ''You say lie fired two shots, George? Will J* ou tell the court just what you were doing when these two snots were fired?" "Well, yoh Honali, when lie fired de fust shot I wa3 shining de gen'man'a shoes, and when lie fired de second shot, suh, I wus passin' de deppo,"
