OBITUARY.
HON. J. A. MILLAR. By Ttlegraph.—'Freu AMociitlofc Auckland, Last Night. Hon J. A. Millar, M.L.C., died to-night, aged BO years. Mr. Millar, who was born in Indift> took an active part in framing the Dominion's Labor legislation. In his earlier years he followed the sea as a vocation, and wii? for some time a master mariner, fn the <'arly 'eighties he settled in Dunedin, and in 1887 lie was elected General Secretary of the Federated Seamen's Union of New Zealand. He was returned to Parliament in 1893. He was for some years Chairman of Committees, and in 1900 accepted the portfolios of Labor and Murine and Commissioner of Customs. being in charge when the revised tariff was passed in 1007. He was appointed to the Legislative Council by the Masscy Government, about two years ago.
