THE PRICE OF BREAD. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, Oct. 14. Mr. Hall foreshadowed an early redaction in the, price of bread. It is understood it will be reduced a penny on the 21b loaf at the end of October, and a half-penny next month. A PUNITIVE EXPEDITION. Sydney, Oct. 15. A punitive expedition against the tribe implicated m the murder of Laycocks captured and put in goal the chief and a number of his relatives and burned their village. The actual murderers escaped. LABOR TROUBLES. Sydney, Oct. 15. At the annual meeting of the Employers* Federation, the president, reviewing the war, said the desire of employers wa,s to remain absolutely quiescent, to devote their energies to problems arising out of the struggle, and to assist its prosecution to a successful issue. But, war or no war, they were up against the same old problems in the Arbitration Courts. Strikes appeared indefensible, but a section of the industrial community had deliberately set itself to minimise the productive capacity of labor and machinery so as to brinf the output n many important industries down b y2O to 50 per cent. Figures were submitted showing that since arbitration was enacted in 1912 there had been 727,726 days lost owinc to strikes, involving a loss of wages of £303,320. fa
THE COPPER INDUSTRY. Melbourne, Oct. la. Mr. Hughes announces that arrangements have been definitely "completed whereby the whole copper output will be treated in Australia. Negotiations are proceedings whereby all the copper and brass gods required will be manufactured in Australia. A JEALOUS WOMAN. Melbourne, Oct. 15, Mrs. Mabel Weston was shot dead by Miss Black. When arrested for murdering her, Black told the police that deceased was trying to estrange her from a man Pinzack. Accused went to Weston's house and saw her and Pinzack lunching. What subsequently happened was a blank.
