The conference between the Northern cclliery proprietors and the Australian Colliery Employees Federation arrived at B compromise whether the "cease work" notices which should have been operated as from Saturday, were withdrawn,' and work was continued to-day. Nothing has officially been disclosed, but it is understood that though the miners' demands of 20 per cent, increase for underground employees, and 2fi per cent, for Up hands are not wholly conceded, but the foundation has been laid for an amicable arrangement. In the meantime, the terms agreed upon are to be subletted to the district lodges for ratification. Negotiations are proceedings with other colliery districts, and when finality is reached the whole will be submitted to t'he Arbitration Court.
