INGLEWOOD RESERVES.
BILL PASSES HIE HOUSE. -, i By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. In the House of Representatives, in respect to the Inglcwood Borough Endowment Disposal Bill, progress was reported by 28 to 27. It was subsequently found that there was an error in the division list, and the matter was held over till 2.30, when it will be ascertained how the Hon, W. D. a. McDonald cast his vote. Mr. 11. J. Okey explained that he had arrived at an understanding with those members opposing the Jnglewood Borough Reserves Disposal Bill, it iieing agreed that any moneys derived from the sale of the reserves be expended in the purchase of other lands. He asked the House to pass the Bill on this arrangement. Mr. T. M. Wilford said that he was no party to this arrangement, and moved to report .progress. This was last 21 to :ifi, and discussion followed until C o'clock. When the House resumed, Mr. D. H. Guthrie drew attention to the error in a division on the question that progress be reported' on the Inglcwood Borough Endowment Disposal Bill, The name of Hon. W. 1). 8. McDonald, who had voted with the "noes," had, he said, not been recorded on the list. Mr. McDonald was asked by the Speaker how he voted, and having stated that lie voted with the "noes" the division list was corrected, making the voting equal. iMr. Malcolm, Chairman of Committees, gave his casting vote with the "noes,'' which ■saved the Bill. The Premier said lie would give the House another opportunity of considering the Bill. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., Mr. Okey accepted an amendment to the Bill,' moved by Mr. R. McCalluin, to the following effect: "Such proceeds (from the sale of endowments) shall from time to time be applied by the said Public Trustee, with the consent of the said Borough Council, in and towards the purchase of suitable freehold lands in or near the borough of Inglcwood, for the purpose of replacing the endowments so sold." This was carried and the third reading was passed.
