THE FISHING SEASON.
GOOD SPORT NEAR STRATFORD. Some good baskets were reported by Stratford fishermen on Sunday. Mr. P. Wright landed eleven, while Mr. Harry Voyle, who journeyed to Ngaere, caught four, the largest of which turned the soale at S'/jlbs, the other three averaging 21bs.
Talk about enthusiasm—is there (asks the Dominion) anything to equal that pi the angler at the opening of the season? One Wellington angler, who was particularly keen to see the reel whirring, witnessed "Les Cloches de Corncville" on Thursday night, and after reaching home, instead of diving into the blankets, lie changed into old clothes, got his fishing tackle together, and started for his selected fishing ground. He walked to Karori, then following the Karori stream crossed over the unroaded range, and taking Pencarrow's. light for a guide, made his way to the South Karori stream, away beyond its junction with the Makara stream. He arrived there about four o'clock. His efforts were rewarded. The stream was alive with good conditioned trout, and by 7.30 a m. lie had secured the full bag allowed by law —twenty fish —and was able to get ba-ck to town in time for breakfast and work.
